And soon I might just forget about you.

My FB, Twitter, and Tumblr (and some social networking sites which I rather not mention) that is. These past few months without connecting to the online world has made me realize that well, I could really live without the net or computers.

But the kid in me can’t really live without animes. I’ve just finished the 1st season of Code Geass (I’m sorry if I’ve just watched it right now ok?) and I’m loving it. Unfortunately I can’t find a copy of the second season in my HD or other’s HD which can force me to buy a DVD copy for the second season.

Also finished Higurashi and I sure learned a lot from it (yeah, despite it’s gory and violent nature, you could learn valuable life principles there y’know!?). Right now itching to get or dl (at least) Seto No eps because I just found out that the eps in my HD are *drumroll* INCOMPLETE! SUCKS! I need to DL at least 8 or 7 eps more T_T

Lastly, I can’t wait for Kiko Machine Komix #8 to be released this summer. Wee! Rak en Rol!

AHHHHH!!!!!!!

Will not (surely, surely) be able to post anything about the few animes I’ve been watching this season because the laptop I’m using broke down (motherboard shoot!). I’ve also been out of commision with regards to the online world for at least a month by now.

And because the laptop broke down, I have to redownload some of the animes that I haven’t finished watching (*waves to Guilty Crown, Amagami SS +, Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou, Another ,High School DxD, Inu x Boku SS, Zero no Tsukaima F, and Shakugan no Shana Final *). Argghh, just thinking about it makes me burst into fruitless (and perfectly immature) tears.

For now I’m watching all the animes saved in my hard drive (thanks to me for procrastinating to not watch them until the right [?] time). So what am I watching right now?

 - Nichijou —> Still wondering why its BD sales were low because as far as I could see, it’s really brilliant (and I’m not just talking about the highly superb and beyond godlike animation of this anime) and funny.

- Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni —> This anime exceeded my expectations and despite it’s simple drawing and repetitiveness, it still is quite intriguing and very interesting to watch.

- Seto no Hanayome —> Almost falls into a generic rom-com anime if not for it’s innovative and trope-breaking scenes.

- Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei —> Why? Why? Why is this anime so good?

Notes on Daily Lives of High School Boys - 02

First, I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart Square and Sunrise for bringing us this anime. So what does the second episode of Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou bring us this time? More laughs of course!

                                 Dysfunctional friendship that is…

Best part: High School Boys and the Morning Journey

Undoubtedly the best part of the episode, this part focuses on our three crazy high school boys imagining themselves on some JRPG (made by Square-Enix maybe) as they go home.

It starts when Tadakuni picks up an ordinary looking wooden stick and is suddenly attack by Hidenori within seconds after he picked up the stick.

                                              This ends here….

After a bit of conditioning by Hidenori and Yoshitake, Tadakuni hesitantly gets into his role of being the hero in a make-believe rpg game. The core story was provided by Hidenori who then pretended as another character (named Jack for God’s sake! LOL) and joins their party.

My name is Jack… and I’ve got a few loose screws in my head

A party of weirdos whose imagination are apparently too much to handle

Meanwhile, pretends to be the random monster and a mid-boss disguised as an NPC who later turns out to be one of the fictional demon lords their party is hunting. After defeating Yoshiatke (as the demon lord) with a lame strike on the neck (It seems that the demon lord has only 1HP and can be defeated by 1 strike alone), Yoshitake remembers that they forgot the bag so they return to school and Tadakuni leaves the stick behind.

This here is how you properly imitate a monster

Enter Motoharu the Delinquent and his own set of friends, the hat-wearing Toshiyuki Karasawa and Yasunori (not sure if the name is correct). Motharu sees the stick and picks it up only to hear Yasunori blabbering a sentence that can be commonly seen in the beggining of RPG games.

Please Square, make a JRPG starring these high school boys

The ending was quite funny as the three were caught red handed role-playing in the street by a high school girl who happens to pass by. The three froze and lets the girl pass by. After this, Motoharu drops the stick and proceeds to walk, along with Yasunori and Karasawa who were obviously ashamed as well.

Other parts of the episode were High School Boys and Convex Mirror Girl,

Convex Mirror girl, the startling alter ego of Nago

Nago, the (again) startling normal personality of Convex Mirror Girl

High School Boys and Friendship Power, in which Yoshitake deals with Tadakuni and Hidenori who both stole the underwear of Tadakuni’s younger sister. In the end, Yoshitake decides to join the path of his friends and becomes a panty thief only to be betrayed by Tadakuni and Hidenori in the end.

Yeah, and only poor you got thrown in the air…

High School Boys and Literary Girl 2, where we see Literary Girl again being emo beside the riverbank. This time around Motoharu was the one who says senseless lines about the wind.

Sometimes, the wind brings forth bad times…

It tragically ends with Motoharu realizing that she got the wrong girl and covers his face due to embarrassment. I admit that this part didn’t upped the ante set by the first Literary Girl segment but still it was quite funny. Also we are introduced to Motoharu’s sister who makes an appearance in the last bit of this segment.

High School Boys and Traditional Events

The boys (Tadakuni, Yoshitake, Hidenori, and Karasawa) are intrigued about the “70 Hour Fast” on the school volunteer pamphlet and decide to ask the principal for more information about it. The principal, however, doesns’t know a single thing about it (his reason is that he was just the principal for three year, but the fuck? really? is that a valid one?) and begins to create a series of bluff stories only to be found out by Karasawa (the other three being completely fooled).

                                     It’s about fasting… for 70 hours

The void in his eyes prove that really, hell, he doesn’t know…

High School Boys and Childhood talks about Motoharu and his sister. Here Motoharu spills the beans on his friend’s sisters (Tadakuni and Hidenori’s) and his sister notes how different they are in terms of closeness. This leads to a (forgotten) childhood memory of Motoharu were she was constantly bullied by his sister.

High School Boys and Ghost Stories 2 once again shows us how retarded Hidenori, Yoshitake, and Tadakuni’s sense of “scary” by letting them tell stories which are not scary (or at least even involve supernatural phenomenon)he highlight was once again Tadakuni’s (made up) story about what he saw underneath Karasawa’s hat (who is always seen wearing a hat). This spikes up the curiosity of the two others and rushes to ambush Karasawa who they called earlier (to also tell a ghost story since they believe he has lots of them). To their surprise (again), Tadakuni’s little sister was spying on them and confronts Karasawa first. What next ensues is a hilarious chase for Karasawa.

If only they knew… though I think nothing will change….

After that we are treated to a musical barrage of randomness and craziness where the whole class of Tadakuni and friends are shown.

The guy with the clothespin on his nipples must be the president

The Daily Life of a Lady is the last part and was absolutely funny. It focuses on a new character namely Lady Yukana and her three butlers, Nagase, Toyogawa, and Asano.

Lady Yukana is lazy to go to school and holds a contest among his three butlers to which they must present her the best excuse not to go to school. In the end, Lady Yukana’s false tooth falls out (much to the delight of Butler Toyogawa, the blue-haired one, whose made up excuses weirdly involves the false tooth of Lady Yukana) which prompts her to, finally, go to school.

As for me, I’ll never get enough of this anime

Notes on Ano Natsu de Matteru - 02 [Senpai to Issho]

———-

Episode Summary:

Episode 2 kicks off with Ichika travelling in space along with Rinon (I don’t know what happened but the subs suddenly changed the name of Yno to Rinon)

I have to find if there is a Rinon doll sold in Japan, too cute to resist….

Ichika’s monologue reveals that she is finding a certain place which prompted her to travel. Suddenly, space debris (I don’t have the slightest idea what they are) causes her ship to go haywire.

                           Space Time Warp! Shaiderrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!

They crash land on the place where Kaito was and the succeeding explosion blows away a bloody Kaito (complete with broken megane). This explains that the explosion during the pilot episode was Ichika’s spaceship.

                                                  Ouch? I guess?

We are taken back to the current event where Nanami (Kaito’s sister) and Kanna just witnessed a half-naked Ichika hugging an unconscious Kaito. Kaito fell unconscious due to a still unexplained disease which he might have contracted during the explosion.

Nanami (who had fallen unconscious due to the severe shock brought by the scen she had just witnessed) is roused up by Kanna. The two take turns in questioning the nature and background of Ichika.

Explaining it would be very hard, seeing that I’m not from this planet….

So Ichika began to explain things which not only made it pretty obvious that she was not an earthling but also brought pleasure for the local space geeks residing here in earth. On a side note, Ichika would be a bad spy and undoubtedly her cover will be blown in no less than a minute.

If only Einstein was still alive, maybe he could talk to you Ichika?

The beads of sweat in her face means even she has a hard time understanding the jargons she just said.

                                        The look of utter confusion

Being a normal human and all, Nanami’s reply to all of these was this….

Don’t worry, we’re all in the same boat

Nanami pities Ichika when she learns that she has no parents since she and Kaito are also suffering from the same ordeal. Nanami suggests letting Ichika move in their house (as oppose to Kaito’s initial idea of letting her in for just one night). This, unsurprisingly upsets Kanna who foresees that something might happen between the two (well, it’s pretty obvious that Kaito has the hots for Ichika).

Really? But why do most of the slice of life animes fall into these situations?

Nanami cooly brushes this off and subtly reminds Kaito to behave properly.

But I could tell he thinks of something weird right now…

                                             Subtlety level: Asian

As the night falls, Kanna immediately tells Mio and Tetsurou that Ichika just moved in at the Kirishima household.

Glad to hear Popura’s voice again (Mio’s seiyuu is also Kana Asumi)

Tetsurou announces his plan to have a meeting at Kaito’s house to which everyone agreed.

Meanwhile on the Kirishima household, Kaito gets a taste of Ichika’s cooking (cold pasta and miso soup) and asks Ichika the reason of her being in Nagano prefecture (the place where the series happens). Ichika replies that she is finding a place where there is trees and a lake but even she can describe in barely.

Hey, I think that almost everywhere here in Earth has a place just like that!

Before going to sleep Kaito suddenly remembers the events of the night before (him falling unconscious due to a sudden pain in his neck). He quickly notes that the rash (so it seems) has already spread in his forehead. This forces him to think of a rather perverted dream sequence where Ichika cures the rash by kissing him in the forehead.

I won’t be surprised if Kai suddenly drops dead because of too much stimulation

The next day surprised Kaito is given the morning wake up call courtesy of Ichika. To Kaito’s surprise, Ichika is wearing a very revealing negligee which she borrowed from Nanami.

Talk about too much stimulation…

Nothing, just a cute teenage (alien) girl waking up a teenage boy (whose hormones I bet are raging at the moment).

Ahm… not really… *stops blood from flowing through the nose*

Kaito and ichika sees Nanami off in the train station. After that, Kaito tells Ichika that they have something else to do as per Nanami’s orders.

Perverts certainly have a different take on this sentence…

The two went shopping for Ichika’s clothes and Kaito acknowledged Ichika’s kawaii factor.

Yeah, but she’s a lower level of kawaii compared to Lemon-chan…

After shopping, the two of them go home only to find Lemon and co. in the house.

You’re late in appearance this episode Lemon… -_-

All of them begin to talk about the movie they are planning to create with the direction of Kaito and the scripts being written by Lemon. Lemon seems to be in charge of the brainstroming session and beigns to tell others her plans and ideas for the movie. One of them involves mechas in the 23rd century while the other one is zombies involving schools. Obviously, Kaito and the others deem the suggestions to be impossible since, after all, they are all amateurs in film making.

                                           HOTD Season 2 please!

Lemon proceeds to make thim drink a mysterious liquid (which I think is laced with alcohol though it looks like a local energy drink) which she calls Dynamite Drink. This makes everyone a bit groggy which I think is intentionally planned by Lemon.

                                    Huhuhu - Lemon’s distinct laugh
Already drunk, the group doesn’t mind and find Rinon’s sudden appearance strange. On the contrary the group laugh about Rinon’s dancing sequence while Ichika hastily covers it up to say that Rinon is her pet.

Why is Rinon so cute? Why? Why!?!?!

Lemon then proposes to the group that they play her version of Simon Says. This part was really hilarious since Lemon’s instructions are far from normal like making Tetsurou take off his pants (to which the latter, already drunk, happily obliges) and for Ichika and Kaito to have sex.

SRSLY? LEMON WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU THINKING! LOL

The episode ends with Kaito getting his dream of being kissed in the forehead by Ichika come true when the latter spots the rash on the forehead of the former. With the help of Rinon, Ichika heals (though I think it’s only temporary) Kaito’s alien rash. The healing procedure I’m talking about is of course demonstrated by a sweet simple kiss.

Lastly, the relations of each character with each other is foreshadowed in the last part and it goes like this:

Mio —> Tetsurou —> Kanna —> Kaito —> Ichika

of course Lemon is my partner (LOL, kidding XD)

———————————-

So far, good episode and I enjoyed every minute of it. Rinon and Lemon are really cute but I also look forward to seeing the film being made by the group. Also, I think this picture of Rinon is enough for me to be happy this day.

Notes on Another - 02 [Blueprint]

—————-

The mystery further deepens as Another continues with the second episode.

Episode Summary:

The episode begins with Kouichi and his classmates attending Mikami-sensei’s art class. We are treated to a brief (but certainly connected) Edward Munch reference with Mochizuki’s painting.

I was supposed to be disturbed by his drawing if not for the fact that I have watched Zero no Tsukaima F 02 the night before.

After class, Mochizuki and Kouichi began to talk about the feeling of uneasiness that can be felt from Munch’s famous painting. Mochizuki tells a very deep and telling response to Kouichi’s inquiries.

People who have no idea of the manga should carefully take notes of what everyone says because it means something

Teshigawara butts in and is consequently asked by Kouichi about the feeling of uneasiness. The former carelessly says that he felt in when he

Teshigawara himself looks surprised by what he said as well as Mochizuki. Kouichi looks around clueless and expects a further explanation from the two. Before Teshigawara can explain what he said (since Mochizuki is obviously trying to prevent Teshigawara from divulging an important information), Kouichi spots Mei alone in the library. Kouichi takes his leave and his two classmates were obviously worried about Kouichi’s actions.

Here, Kouichi meets the mysterious (well almost everyone in this anime is hiding something) Tatsuji Chibiki who is the school librarian.

                                  Arrgghh!!!!! Please don’t eat me!!

Kouichi decides to meet up with the helpful (and also an avid horror fan) nurse, Sanae, to investigate Mei’s presence in the hospital during the last episode. Kouichi asks Sanae regarding any information about a patient who died. According to Sanae, the patients she was assigned to were all alive.

What the hell could really be in Basement 2?!?!?

Kouichi rephrases his question and describes the features of Mei Misaki and asks Sanae if she has seen her. Sanae didn’t see anyone who look like Mei but suddenly remembers that someone could have possibly died in the hospital. Since she wasn’t sure, she decides to call Kouichi if she finds any new information about his queries.

Here’s me hoping that what you will find will not be your last….

                If there’s anything you’ll dig up, it’ll be a dead body…

The next day, Kouichi talks with Izumi Akazawa (one of the three persons who visits him in the hospital) who asks Kouichi (for the second time around) if he has lived in Yomiyama before. Like before, Kouichi denies this. Kouichi learns that Izumi is the head of countermeasure for their class. According to Izumi, as head of countermeasures, she is assigned to protect their class (from what we would know as the story goes on…).

Kouichi is stumped by this and asks what exactly does being head of countermeasures mean. Izumi suddenly says that she’s got something important to say to Kouichi but is stopped by Yukari and Mochizuki who were also with them as they talk.

                                            Your death probably

Kouichi sees Mei again and decides to follow her. What he didn’t see was the reaction of Izumi who obviously didn’t like it (and no, not a hint of romance via jealousy can be felt from the scene).

Kouichi loses Mei and stumbles upon a (creepy) doll shop with an interesting sign on the entrance.

In what? The boiling vats of hell?

This time, Kouichi’s cellphone began ringing and he finds himself talking to Sanae who confirms that one patient died. Kouichi is shocked when he learns that the name of the patient who died is Misaki (though to be fair Sanae provides an alternative option in the form of “Masaki”)

The call was cut due to some static interference and Kouichi curiously enters the doll shop. Here he finds himself surrounded by numerous dolls (who all seem to emanate a dark, unpleasant aura) and a lone old woman who appears to be the owner of the shop.

Apparently because the shop smells of death and agony

While looking around the shop, Kouichi suddenly sees a doll which bores resemblance to Mei Misaki. To his surprise, Mei is also there in the shop and asks Kouichi his purpose of coming to the shop.

The episode ends with Mei unfolding one of his secrets to Kouichi, which is what is under her eyepatch.

                                                    Ahmm…. no?

I said no!! Argh! Help! Somebody help!!!!!!

You just don’t understand the word “no” don’t you? *DIES*

————————

This episode offers more questions than answers and may leave a lot of people confused. However, it sets the plot nicely (though rather slowly) and gives us a lot to look forward in the next episode.

Notes on Inu x Boku SS - 01 [The Dog and I]

——

To start with, this anime confused the hell out of me. Having no idea about the manga it is based from (dled and watched it last night just because my eyes were too tired from my Shakugan no Shana marathon), I can say that the first episode did not impress me that much. That is until around the 16th minute mark, when the heroine’s eyes glowed and (obviously) got my unconditional attention.

Plot Summary:

Shirakiin (the Japanese relatives of a Dovahkiin perhaps?) Ririchiyo just moved to Room 4 of Ayakashi Kan (Maison de Ayakashi). Ayakashi Kan is a special dwelling place for persons like Ririchiyo. Each of the tenants in Ayakashi Kan are accompanied by one agent from the secret service (hence, the “SS” in the title). The agent asigned to be with Ririchiyo is Miketsukami Soushi, who happens to be a person Ririchiyo rescues previously. The story revolves around Ririchiyo and Soushi’s relationship with one another as well as the stories of the other tenants in Ayakashi Kan.

Episode Summary:

                                                 Oh, Yamada!

The episode starts with the rantings of Ririchiyo about how she is living a farce. Due to constant bullying during her childhood days, she developed acting tough and strong as a defense mechanism. This causes other people to perceive her as arrogant and haughty but actually she is just lonely.

                                         What bullying can do….

After this we get to meet Sorinozuka Renshou who apparently knows a great deal about Ririchiyo and appears to be a close friend of our heroine.

                                             Haughty Ririchiyo

                                           Renshou Sorinozuka

While arranging her things, Ririchiyo meets the heterochromic Miketsukami Soushi who happily assists her in organizing her things. Soushi is the assigned secret agent to accompany Ririchiyo.

The weird thing here is not the eyes, but where the hell do those petals come from?

At this point, I came to the (hasty) conclusion that this would be another romance anime story where boy meets girl and they battle the odds to be with each other which usually, ends happily. So far every jokes presented by this anime fell flat for me so I was rather silent while watching this one.

                                           Let there be light!

Ririchiyo immediately finds out that Soushi (his heterchromia reminds me of Julio Cesar of Zero no Tsukaima) is devoted to her with him going so far as to ask Ririchiyo to call her a dog. And then we get the following scenes where we see just how truly Soushi is devoted to Ririchiyo.

Female fans immediately consulted google earth to find the location of Ayakashi Kan

Ririchiyo then makes it clear to Soushi (who sparkles every now and then, kind of like Edward Cullen but still Edward Cullen is gay) that she doens’t need the assistance of agents from the Secret Service. The two pictures above foreshadows what would happen if you refuse a somewhat rather obsessed person with his request to protect you.

Please dispose of me too, since I don’t know the meaning of implore, LOL

Ririchiyo tries to rid of Soushi but sadly Soushi is there to stay.

Or rather, they had to find someone that is so hard to refuse

The next day, Ririchiyo, who happens to wake up from an unpleasant dream, opens the door and (not surprisingly) finds Soushi who greets him with a pleasing smile and says several romantic lines from which I’m very sure that 90% of male viewers unconsciously cringed at (especially if you’re single).

Several other characters are introduced. We meet the pink-haired Roromiya Karuta, another secret agent who is assigned to the tenant of Room 2.

Secret Agents in this anime strangely reminds me of the turks from FF

There is also the blond Yukinokouji Nobara who, from the moment she laid her eyes on Ririchiyo, suddenly started sexually harrassing Ririchiyo.

                                                   Wutt!?!?!?!?!

Ririchiyo then dreams of her horrible past where she was bullied by other children because of her being a Shirakiin. Ririchiyo appears to hesitate to open up and get close with Soushi as well as others because she fears to be hurt again.

                                                    TRUE THAT.

While Ririchiyo ponders about this, a burglar manages to sneak in her room and points a gun at Ririchiyo’s face.

                                              The (poor) burglar

When your victim suddenly says this, you know there’s something wrong

At this point, the anime unleashes hell and spits on the face of every viewer who thought what they were watching sucks. It appears that Ayakashi Kan is created to house half-monsters or the like (kinda like Rosario + Vampire but in a non-school setting).

The identity of the burglar is revealed! Captain Obvious!

Soushi arrives and saves Ririchiyo from being shot (though I doubt about the capacity of an ordinary gun to hurt a half-demon girl). Soushi is revealed to be a Kitsune or a fox spirit.

If I was Ririchiyo, I’d never refused having a bodyguard who looks like this

The other tenants also reveal their true nature with Nobara being a Yuki-onna

Yeah, proper humans do have an ice sleet covering their hair

and Karuta being a Gashadokuro

What happened to the cute pink-haired loli girl? Me is sad… T_T

P.S. Renshou’s form is…

                                                 A cloth-demon!

The situation regarding the burglar was dealt with (though we never get to see the fate of the poor burglar). Soushi reveals that Ririchiyo save his life hence his loving devotion to Ririchiyo. It is also revealed that the tenants, along with the secret agents, are housed in Ayakashi Kan since their blood attracts pure-blooded monsters who are a threat to them.

Thus begins the story of Ririchiyo and her dog, the fox-spirit Soushi.

————————————-

The anime, depending on how it balances out the romance and action (I hope there is a lot), could go either way. I was bored since it was very cliched up until the 16th minute mark when the main characters reveal their supernatural nature. I’ll keep watching this and hopefully, I will not be disappointed.

Notes on Daily Lives of High School Boys - 01

With the Japanese title of Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou, Daily Lives of High School Boys title couldn’t be more simple and appropriate. So what is it about? Well, from the looks of it (since I really have no idea about this anime and just decided to give it a go), it’s about the daily lives of high school boys. Surprised? No, don’t be.

If I were given the chance to rethink of a title for the anime then I would go for Random Daily Lives of Three Batshit Crazy High School Boys.

(L-R): Hidenori Tabata, Tadakuni, Yoshitake Tanaka

Yes, these three are crazy

Plot Summary:

Let me give this anime one short and sweet plot summary. The anime revolves around the everyday insane (and very, very random) antics of Tadakuni, Hidenori, and Yoshitake, three friends who attend an all-boys school.

Episode Summary:

Since the episode doesn’t really have a connecting plot, which resembles the style of Working!!, Mitsudomoe, AND Nichijou, the episode is spliced into short skits.

The first part introduces Tadakuni who is seen leaving his house with a toast on his mouth.

Just a normal Monday morning.

Even the anime concurs with my caption above

After this we are introduced to one of his friends, Yoshitake who eats a curry meal on his way to school (while running mind you.)

More like, the hell are you doing! On a personal note, having this skill is beyond awesome.

Another one of Tadakuni’s friend, Hidenori, appears. He ups the ante displayed by Yoshitake and eats with a bowl of ramen while jogging on the way to school.

You’re obviously supposed to eat a fresh hot bowl of ramen when you’re running late.

Then, a beam falls from the sky and the three witness an explosion.

Explosions seems to be the theme in animes this Winter 2012

Then out of nowhere, Robots (resembling mobile suits) begin to terrorize the town (or city, or - yeah whatever)

At this point, I told myself that I stumbled into another mecha series. Hell, was I wrong. Very wrong.

A robot shoots the trio and a book falls out from somewhere (which my mind couldn’t recollect where it came from).

A Tale of Insanity

The three then began to imagine themselves as warriors who would defeat the mobile suits.

Seriously, something’s wrong here. Why does Tadanuki represent a blond, staff-wielding magician?

It turns out that the scenarios above where the imagination of Hidenori.

It didn’t occur to them that the collab Square and Sunrise were doing is the anime they were starring. What irony.

Apparently, Tadanuki knows he is starring in an anime about everyday normal life. Again, I’m wrong.

The next part is entitle High School Boys and After School.

On this part we see Tadanuki asking his two friends on how to get a girlfriend. The trio reenacts a situation. What’s funny here is that Hidenori and Yoshitake were completely awkward (and a bit unsightly) acting as girls.

Do high school girls in Japan always look like Yoshitake? Looking from the picture, Yoshitake badly needs a constipation pill.

The three tries various scenarios and fail because of their own silliness and idiocy. The part ends when the three began to realize their futile actions since they attend an all boys school and therefore, have a 0% chance of meeting a high school girl on their campus.

—————————————————————————

The next part is entitled High School Boys and Skirts.

The big question of 2012

In this part, the trio (led by Hidenori’s sudden intllectual pursuit for skirts) try what is it like to wear skirts. After “borrowing” the skirts of Tadanuki’s little sister, they set out to feel for themselves how is it like to wear skirts.

As if some of the girls doesn’t have leg hair

This part was outrageously funny especially when it Tadanuki tries to act like a shy girl in front of Hidenori and Yoshitake.

When one of your friends is laughing at the background, what they’re telling you can’t absolutely be the truth.

THIS.

This part finishes when Tadanuki’s little sister suddenly arrives and accidentally caughts her brother and friends messing up with her skirt (and other personal things).

Words can’t express how they (Tadanuki and co.) suddenly want to disappear from the face of the Earth. Especially Tadanuki.

If words can’t express, then surely these faces can.

The next part is entitled High School Boys and Ghost Stories

Here, we deal with the trio telling ghost stories but interestingly enough none of their tales are scary.

Hidenori tells his story about a girl he saw while eating udon and after eating the girl leaves. Hidenori then proceeds and tells them that there were three chopsticks. This (for some unknown and completely absurd reason) scares Yoshitake and Tadanuki.

Three chopsticks for three idiots

Next, we have Yoshitake tells his own ghost story (in which neither ghosts nor monsters are involve).

A normal concern for young adolescent boys

According to him, tweezers weren’t enough to pull the hair out and that’s when…

Oh God, please Yoshitake, don’t tell me…

PLEASE NOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By this time, I was totally out of breath because of too much laughter

Not wanting to lose to his friends, Tadanuki tells his own ghost story which is about a friend’s puke containing a centipede.

The ghost stories of today’s generation

The part ends when Hidenori and Yoshitake proceed to the bathroom (apparently to puke and find a centipede in their’s) and where completely taken by surprise when they find Tadanuki’s sister puking in the bathroom. The two conclude that she was listening to their stories as well.

Silver, shiny puke FTW

The next part is entitled High School Boys and Female Companion.

For me, this was the weakest link in the episode since I didn’t really laugh at the premise being presented here.

In this part, Tadanuki was spotted walking with a girl, much to Yoshitake and Hidenor’s, as well as their other male classmates, surprise.

A classmate of theirs named Motoharu suddenly interrupts and deduces that the two couldn’t be possibly a couple based on their awkwardness with each other.

The nickname I would totally allow for others to call me

The part ends with all of them finding out that Tadanuki was just helping out the girl who was lost. All eyes lead to Motoharu who replied, “Well, how was I supposed to know they weren’t a couple?”

——————————————————-

The last part of the episode was entitled Highschool Boys and Literary Girl.

This puts Hidenori in the spotlight as he quietly reads beside the riverbank with the sunset as his background. We are then introduced to Literary Girl who happens to pass by and sees Hidenori.

Reading a small green book entitles you to the name Literary Girl

My heart would have skipped a beat if this had been a romance anime but my mind is telling me that it would crumble to absurdity in the next minute

Hidenori senses Literary Girl’s presence and somewhat came to the conclusion that he should say romantic lines to the girl.

So he summons his inner poet and decides to say this…

Shakespeare would have quit his job as a poet and devote his life to hunting Hidenori upon hearing the above lines.

Embarrassed by what he just said, Hidenori looks at the girl to see if she liked it.

Definitely, the looks of happiness.

After a few seconds, the girl replies to Hidenori

At this rate, Hidenori’s mind was about to explode so he decideds to call his two friends for help. Yoshitake suddenly appears and says the single most unartistic line I’ve heard in my 21 years of existence.

It seems to me he is referring to a large-scale fart

Hidenori continues playing a poet and further spouts poetic lines.

Tadanuki then appears and completely destroys the artistic and poetic interaction between the Hidenori, Yoshitake, and the girl.

The part ends with Hidenori finding out that Literary Girl was turning her fantasy of “a boy meets girl in a riverbank scenario” into reality by choosing to sit near Hidenori. He is disappointed when his supposed to be character was labeled as an introverted and lonely otaku.

—————————————————————-

Great pilot episode and for an anime which I didn’t really have high hopes for, it definitely exceeded my expectations. The jokes made were not overtly done and while there were some stale moments, I think that the future episodes would be more funnier and crazier than the first episode. I don’t think that everybody will get the jokes though but anyone who manages to tune in to the same wavelength of Danshi Koukousei will surely enjoy this anime made by the collaboration of Square-Enix and Sunrise Studios.

Notes on Ano Natsu de Matteru - 01 [Komarimasu, Sempai]

Somehow, it reminds me of one particular anime that will forever have a place in my heart…

PLOT SUMMARY:

Ano Natsu de Matteru (english: Waiting in the Summer) is a romantic comedy anime that tells the coming of age stories of Kaito Kirishima and his friends. Kaito and his friends enlist the help of odd new student Ichika Takatsuki for a film they intend to create to have something to do during the approaching summer. Thus starts the story of their friendship and their evolving relationships with one another.

Episode Summary:

Kaito (or Kai as he is fondly called) is a high school student who carries around a Nizo film-camera and records everyday experiences.

This reminds me of the film Super 8

One starry night, he is accidentally caught up in an explosion which (almost?) kills him.

Not your everyday night scenery

He wakes up with a faint memory of a ghostly hand helping him and apart from that, things go on as normal. On the way to school, a red-haired girl riding a train, which is bound to the same school, caughts his attention. The episode then introduces Kaito’s friends; the charismatic and ladies man Tetsurou Ishigaki, the pretty and reserved Mio Katahara, and Kanna Tanigawa who apparently has a thing for Kaito.

(L-R): Tetsurou, Kaito, the camera, Mio, and Kanna

Best Quote of the episode

On the other hand, newcomer Ichika Takatsuki is still adjusting to her new environment.

When your hair is red, expect to be flocked by men.

Ichika then meets a small (and very cute) classmate named Lemon (Remon in Japanese) Yamano. Lemon (which I find very suiting to her character and whoever thought of her name is simply brilliant) quickly notes that Ichika appears to have quirky food tastes while the latter asks Lemon the reason why she is wearing a different school uniform.

Look who’s talking.

Someone get me a defibrillator. Lemon-chan is so cute I’m dying of a heart attack!

In a string of events, Kaito and Tetsurou managed to enlist the help of Lemon and Ichika in a film they will create.

The last parts of the episode was Kaito imagining a somewhat perverse scene between him (the director of the film they will do) and Ichika (the actress in the film). However, his imagination (which was inviting Ichika to stay at their soon-to-be emptied house) turns to reality when he finds himself facing Ichika who is actually looking for a place to stay. Kaito reluctantly offers Ichika his house and while attending to the latter’s needs (he was getting clothes for Ichika who was showering that time), Kaito suddenly feels a prickling pain on his neck.

Not your simple allergy

Ichika appears knowledgeable of Kaito’s condition and suddenly calls out someone named Yno. Surprise surprise! It looks like Ichika is from another planet and Yno is actually inside Ichika’s suitcase (which Kaito previously noted to be very heavy) and appears to be a cute alien creature.

The reason why the suitcase is heavy. Looks like it contains mithril steel and made from adamantium leather.

Yno!

Yno then sets up a glowing orb of light (every looks of it spells of future) which surrounds Ichika and the unconscious Kaito.

Ichika then proceeds to kiss Kaito, presumably to cure him of whatever disease he has contracted.

Or it could be another preparatory operation ritual.

And what else could happen during this momentous event other than Kaito’s sister, Nanami, along with Kanna arrives at the house. Nanami witnesses the scene and hurriedly closed the door. She then convinces herself that what she saw was just her imagination.

I don’t know what is a fata morgana but I’m telling you that what you witness is real.

After deciding that what she saw couldn’t possibly be true, Nanami slides open the door again only to confirm what she thought was just her silly imagination. And so the episode ends with Nanami and Kanna witnessing an almost naked Ichika burrying a still unconscious Kaito in her chest.

Adolescence. It’s more fun in Japan.

AWKWARD MEETING IS AWKWARD.

Written by Yōsuke Kuroda, who also wrote Please Teacher and Please Twins,
and directed by Tatsuyuki Nagai, who also directed (gasp!) Ano Hana, Ano Natsu de Matteru is one of the anticipated animes this Winter 2012.

I didn’t hesitate trying to watch this because seriously, if it has a connection with Ano Hana then might as well watch it. Ano Natsu de Matterru has also the same character designer as Ano Hana (which I could clearly see with the art and animation).

The first episode was really good. I enjoyed every minute of it (thanks to the great animation quality and art style). Lemon seems to be a very interesting character for me. I was also delighted that the seiyuu of Ichika was Haruka Tomatsu, who was also the voice of Hitoha in Mitsudomoe and (gasp! again) Anjo Naruko in Ano Hana.

People are saying that this is a rip-off of Please Teacher and I can’t help but agree because of the glaring similarities. Hopefully though, it will develop its own unique charm and have a very beautiful story like Ano Hana.
