Notes on Daily Lives of High School Boys - 02

First, I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart Square and Sunrise for bringing us this anime. So what does the second episode of Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou bring us this time? More laughs of course!

                                 Dysfunctional friendship that is…

Best part: High School Boys and the Morning Journey

Undoubtedly the best part of the episode, this part focuses on our three crazy high school boys imagining themselves on some JRPG (made by Square-Enix maybe) as they go home.

It starts when Tadakuni picks up an ordinary looking wooden stick and is suddenly attack by Hidenori within seconds after he picked up the stick.

                                              This ends here….

After a bit of conditioning by Hidenori and Yoshitake, Tadakuni hesitantly gets into his role of being the hero in a make-believe rpg game. The core story was provided by Hidenori who then pretended as another character (named Jack for God’s sake! LOL) and joins their party.

My name is Jack… and I’ve got a few loose screws in my head

A party of weirdos whose imagination are apparently too much to handle

Meanwhile, pretends to be the random monster and a mid-boss disguised as an NPC who later turns out to be one of the fictional demon lords their party is hunting. After defeating Yoshiatke (as the demon lord) with a lame strike on the neck (It seems that the demon lord has only 1HP and can be defeated by 1 strike alone), Yoshitake remembers that they forgot the bag so they return to school and Tadakuni leaves the stick behind.

This here is how you properly imitate a monster

Enter Motoharu the Delinquent and his own set of friends, the hat-wearing Toshiyuki Karasawa and Yasunori (not sure if the name is correct). Motharu sees the stick and picks it up only to hear Yasunori blabbering a sentence that can be commonly seen in the beggining of RPG games.

Please Square, make a JRPG starring these high school boys

The ending was quite funny as the three were caught red handed role-playing in the street by a high school girl who happens to pass by. The three froze and lets the girl pass by. After this, Motoharu drops the stick and proceeds to walk, along with Yasunori and Karasawa who were obviously ashamed as well.

Other parts of the episode were High School Boys and Convex Mirror Girl,

Convex Mirror girl, the startling alter ego of Nago

Nago, the (again) startling normal personality of Convex Mirror Girl

High School Boys and Friendship Power, in which Yoshitake deals with Tadakuni and Hidenori who both stole the underwear of Tadakuni’s younger sister. In the end, Yoshitake decides to join the path of his friends and becomes a panty thief only to be betrayed by Tadakuni and Hidenori in the end.

Yeah, and only poor you got thrown in the air…

High School Boys and Literary Girl 2, where we see Literary Girl again being emo beside the riverbank. This time around Motoharu was the one who says senseless lines about the wind.

Sometimes, the wind brings forth bad times…

It tragically ends with Motoharu realizing that she got the wrong girl and covers his face due to embarrassment. I admit that this part didn’t upped the ante set by the first Literary Girl segment but still it was quite funny. Also we are introduced to Motoharu’s sister who makes an appearance in the last bit of this segment.

High School Boys and Traditional Events

The boys (Tadakuni, Yoshitake, Hidenori, and Karasawa) are intrigued about the “70 Hour Fast” on the school volunteer pamphlet and decide to ask the principal for more information about it. The principal, however, doesns’t know a single thing about it (his reason is that he was just the principal for three year, but the fuck? really? is that a valid one?) and begins to create a series of bluff stories only to be found out by Karasawa (the other three being completely fooled).

                                     It’s about fasting… for 70 hours

The void in his eyes prove that really, hell, he doesn’t know…

High School Boys and Childhood talks about Motoharu and his sister. Here Motoharu spills the beans on his friend’s sisters (Tadakuni and Hidenori’s) and his sister notes how different they are in terms of closeness. This leads to a (forgotten) childhood memory of Motoharu were she was constantly bullied by his sister.

High School Boys and Ghost Stories 2 once again shows us how retarded Hidenori, Yoshitake, and Tadakuni’s sense of “scary” by letting them tell stories which are not scary (or at least even involve supernatural phenomenon)he highlight was once again Tadakuni’s (made up) story about what he saw underneath Karasawa’s hat (who is always seen wearing a hat). This spikes up the curiosity of the two others and rushes to ambush Karasawa who they called earlier (to also tell a ghost story since they believe he has lots of them). To their surprise (again), Tadakuni’s little sister was spying on them and confronts Karasawa first. What next ensues is a hilarious chase for Karasawa.

If only they knew… though I think nothing will change….

After that we are treated to a musical barrage of randomness and craziness where the whole class of Tadakuni and friends are shown.

The guy with the clothespin on his nipples must be the president

The Daily Life of a Lady is the last part and was absolutely funny. It focuses on a new character namely Lady Yukana and her three butlers, Nagase, Toyogawa, and Asano.

Lady Yukana is lazy to go to school and holds a contest among his three butlers to which they must present her the best excuse not to go to school. In the end, Lady Yukana’s false tooth falls out (much to the delight of Butler Toyogawa, the blue-haired one, whose made up excuses weirdly involves the false tooth of Lady Yukana) which prompts her to, finally, go to school.

As for me, I’ll never get enough of this anime
